What is website design price in Malaysia? Or, how much does website design costs in Malaysia?
These are two very common questions when it comes to website development in Malaysia — and in this post, I'll share with you on how much you are expected to pay for a decent priced website design.
But before that, do you know why small business needs a website?
Having a website is like having your best sales person working on a 24 hours shift, the whole year long. He or she is not taking any leaves (ever) and is devoted to turn first time website visitors into paying customers.
A website also helps you to build a brand reputation especially in this online world.
Types Of Website Design Projects In Malaysia
Before we jump into how much does website design costs in Malaysia, it is important to highlight that there are many types of website design projects — and each is priced differently.
|Using popular CMS such as WordPress and Wix||Using popular CMS such as WordPress and Shopify||Often times custom coded CMS|
|Between 5 to 10 pages||Between 10 to 50 pages including products||Custom solutions|
|Starts from RM1,500.00 per project||Starts from RM3,500.00 per project||Usually above RM5,000.00 per project|
Static website development in Malaysia
This is the most cost efficient and cheap web development pricing in Malaysia. It starts around RM1,500.00 for a web development project and there is always a reason for the price.
By doing a quick search on Google, you will find that there are companies or freelancers who offer website development as low as RM300. Yes, there are like RM388, RM488, RM588, RM688 etc.)
But, why starts at RM1,500 and not just a mere RM500? Here's why.
As a website developer myself, I have worked with clients who had major headaches especially when their website is badly coded, exposed to malware/virus/hacking and even a under par per server performance. The restoration works are not easy and often costs more money than they could ever imagine.
Disclaimer: At times, I do wish to price my web development works for only RM388 or RM688, but I know deep inside that I would not be able to provide an excellent job to my clients.
eCommerce website development in Malaysia
Since the COVID pandemic, eCommerce been a blooming business and yes, I'm thrilled at the same time (thanks to the fact that I got more projects every month without fail).
Developing an eCommerce website is not an easy task and I can't seem to understand how website developers (especially freelancers) can make it under RM2,500.00. Of course, if you are talking about a full-fledged and working eCommerce store!
eCommerce websites often require many integrations which cost money (ouch!) and time to integrate one to another. Not to mention, the process of updating and uploading the products to the site, making the site loads fast and mobile-friendly all at the same time.
TL;DR If you are getting an eCommerce website development quote under RM2,500.00, please ... run far and hide. It is not worth your money.

I think this is a fairly important question to ask and I'm sure some of you reading this would have thought about this.
Some website developers offer all-inclusive where you will get free domain and web hosting for at least a year when you sign up for their website design project.
But just for the sake of this, here are the breakdowns of pricing.
If you are looking for a really simple website, it wouldn't cost you more than RM100 per month for hosting the website.
Can I Create A Website For Free?
I get it. There are times where a lead tells me that he/she can't afford to have a website design package (for now) and they prefer to DIY. Sure, there are many website platforms that offers free websites.
However, it is important to understand that these free website platforms don't offer any security and server performance. In other words, you are building a website on a thin piece of paper.

A website in Malaysia costs you between RM1,500 to RM100,000 (approx. $350 – $25,000) or more depending on the complexity of design and functions of your website.
Web designers typically charge about USD$75 per hour. A business website could potentially cost between USD$5,000 and USD$10,000, with USD$6,760 being the average cost to set up, design, build and create content for a basic website. This figure also includes maintenance and training the client.
To conclude, expect a 6-8 page template website to take 40-100 hours to complete and think twice before you start requesting changes or get upset over small imperfections.
Creating an effective website is hard work - at the very least it involves design and SEO know-how – and for this reason self-builds are incredibly inefficient. Instead of exerting all your energy building a website, your time is much better spent doing what you do best – running your business.
